Conference Registration and First Session
- Registration and badge pickup opens at 9am on May 16th and will be open through the day.
- Opening session begins at 10am on day 1.
- End-note session adjourns at noon on day 2.
What to expect as an attendee:
- The NWONL Annual Conference is the premier event for engaging with nursing leadership peers in the Northwest. The conference is exclusive and designed for the unique needs and values of nursing leadership and designed to deliver relevant and immediate application in nursing leadership practices.
- Attendance is limited to 150 Leaders, with priority for NWONL members and affiliates.
- Attendees are primarily senior leaders, their peers, and their leadership teams at all levels from across Oregon, Washington, Alaska and the expanded West Coast to include California and Idaho.
Registration Priority:
- Priority registration for members and affiliates is open November 1.
- General registration is open after January 1st 2024.
Preferred Lodging is Available:
- Reservations can be made directly with Marriott online here: group rate $171 a night.

Registration Refund and Cancellation Policy
Cancellations are conditional with the following options:
- Cancellations before the cutoff date of April15th 2024 will be refunded 50% of the attendance fee.
- Cancellations after the cutoff date of April 15th 2024 are non-refundable as NWONL is responsible for all costs after this date.
Options in lieu of cancellation refunds:
- You may opt to transfer your attendance to a peer/associate nursing leader.
- You may opt to "gift" your attendance to the NWONL Board to award to an NWONL member.

Dr. Barbara Mackoff is consulting psychologist, leadership educator ,keynote speaker, Fulbright Specialist and author of five books that have been published in five languages. They include Leaving the Office Behind, The Art of Self-renewal, What Mona Lisa Knew, Growing a Girl and The Inner Work of Leaders. She is a widely recognized authority on healthcare leadership and the author of Nurse Manager Engagement who has conducted leadership laboratories for healthcare leaders around the world. She is the author of two books about Nursing Leadership: Nurse Manger Engagement and the forthcoming, Leadership Laboratory for Nurse Leaders. Her work perspectives and presentation have been sought by organizations from coast to coast in the USA and in Turkey, Argentina, Ireland, Greece, Jamaica and Germany. As a Fulbright Specialist, she lived and taught in Denmark and Finland. Educated at Harvard University, Dr. Mackoff has held educational and clinical appointments at the University of Washington Medical School and The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Adelphi University in New York. She has been on the faculty of the American Organization of Nursing Leaders and a visiting scholar at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospitals in Boston Massachusetts. She has participated in more than one hundred media interviews and her work has been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post and on The Today Show, CBS Morning News, CNN and NPRs All Things Considered.
SVP, System Chief Nursing Officer at Providence
Syl is leader of significant impact. In his position, he serves at the voice for nursing at the most senior executive level, representing nursing practice for over thirty-eight thousand nurses in fifty one hospitals and approximately eleven-hundred clinics in seven states. In addition to his duties as a System Chief Nursing Executive at Providence, he is an assistant professor for TTUHSC in the Masters in Nursing Administration program. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Institute of Human Caring, the American Hospital Association's Clinical Leadership Committee, and the Board of Trustees for CGFNS, the world's largest credentials evaluation agency for nursing and allied health. Syl also serves on the Audit & Risk Committee for the American Academy of Nursing, serves on the Board of OpusVi, and is an elected AONL Board member representing Region 9.

Ann Tardy believes in the power of connections and conversations to drive community. As a corporate attorney in Silicon Valley for over a decade, she discovered the power of mentorship for professional success. In 2005 Ann launched MentorLead to help healthcare organizations leverage mentoring to drive onboarding, retention, engagement, and leadership. MentorLead’s mentoring programs are loved by clients such as Kaiser Permanente, Stanford, Cedars Sinai, Johns Hopkins, and Mass General Brigham. In 2023, Ann was nominated as an ANA “Champion of Nursing.” She is the author of four books: Ambition on a Mission, Moxie for Managers, Why Mentoring Matters, and In a Flash.

Jennifer Gentry brings nearly 20 years of nursing experience to her role of Central Division chief nursing officer for Providence St. Joseph Health-Oregon. Previously, she was the chief clinical and nursing officer for Providence St. Joseph Health-Oregon. Prior to that, she was the chief nursing executive at Providence Portland Medical Center. Jennifer is a keynote speaker and passionate advocate for driving cultural change in healthcare back to its foundation of human service and connection.
Director of Professional Engagement and Nursing Excellence, Patient Care Services
Cheri is the Director Professional Engagement and Nursing Excellence at the University of Washington’s Northwest Campus in Seattle, Washington. She is a relatable nurse leader and educator with more than 30 years of nursing experience, with 19 of those years in direct patient care. Cheri created a national curriculum on Lateral Violence in Nursing for the Association for Nurses in Professional Development in 2015, served on the Academy of Medical Surgical Nursing’s Healthy Practice Environment National Task Force in 2018 and was featured in the July, 2022 Journal for Nurses in Professional Development’s “Ask a Leader” column titled “Authenticity is Integral to Effective Leadership”. Cheri has spoken extensively locally and nationally on her passion for supporting the emotional health of both patients and healthcare workers and on creating a healthy work environment in healthcare.
Director, CARE4U Well-being & Support Program
Associate Director, Patient Care Services
Marie is the Director of the Wellbeing & Support Program, CARE4U, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Marie is a graduate prepared clinician and has been a nurse for over 20 years with a strong clinical background in critical care both as a bedside nurse and Clinical Nurse Educator and Specialist. For the past four years, she has shifted her primary focus away from patients and families and towards our healthcare teams, taking care of the people that take care of the people. Marie assisted in the creation and implementation of an extremely successful and highly utilized system wide Peer Support Program in 2020 and then served as the mental health supervisor for healthcare workers during the pandemic, directly supporting two hospital campuses. She is extremely passionate about cultivating healthy work environments, reducing stigma and barriers to access related to mental health care, and the prevention of suicide. Marie has spoken extensively locally and nationally on topics clinically in critical care and nursing education, as well as a variety of wellbeing and mental health topics and is an emotional intelligence powerhouse in leading our teams with a focus on wellbeing and support.

Safe staffing in an era of nurse shortages must be achieved by a radical change to the current models of care.
